What do you eat during such a long run?

A balance of carbs, proteins, and non-saturated trans fats. The key is something that's fairly easy to digest and tastes decent, although I’ll say it up front, some of it may not be the most healthy but when you have a well stoked fire, most anything will burn. At a base level it's all fuel for the fire.

Is anyone running with you?

This year [2007] my friend Sean Luitjens is running with me. He was my running-mate for the H2H run in 2004. In past years I've had company on the way out as well as the way back. Usually my wife Mary runs the race back with me. She has done close to a dozen marathons herself.

What advice would you give to other runners?

If you don't currently partake in regular exercise, make sure you see your doctor before you just head out there and start running. Make sure you have good running shoes and by “good” I don't necessarily mean expensive. Go to a running store that has knowledge staff (Runner's Alley in Manchester or Portsmouth, NH or Marathon Sports stores in the Boston area.) who can properly fit your foot and get a shoe that's right for your running style and amount and type of running you are or plan on doing.

Most of all have FUN and mix it up. Run with people; it's a great motivator. A good way to do that is hooking up with a local running group; most all of them have a wide range of runners so you’re bound to find people at your level. Run on trails once in awhile. It's less pounding on the legs and more scenic.

See you out there on the trails or roads!
